Special Touch Keys and Features
Top

Package Stores need special features not required in other retail stores. The main ones are Bar Codes for Singles vs. Packs, Break Pack Link, Lottery Ticket Sales, Hot Keys, Ordering. Here is a description of each.

Special Keys for Singles and Packs (Six, twelve, case, etc.)

Often the single and pack will have the same bar code. For example, when a six pack is bound by plastic rings. The same bar code can be used to sell singles and packs by pressing Special Keys. These may be Touch Keys.

Add a special key for Single. (See configuration, Hot Keys, Special.) Then, when adding the single to inventory, pres this key and scan the bar code when at the Vendor's Item Number field. Now, when selling, pres the Single Key before scanning the bar code. The price and control will be on the single can. If the key isn't pressed, the pack price is used and quantity reduced.

Hot Keys (Touch Enabled)

Add an item to a transaction by touching its Hot Key (on a touch screen) or by pressing the corresponding key on a key board. This is great for items that are too small, too impractical, or sell too fast, to permit applying a bar code tag. Non-inventory items, such as shipping, COD, fees and registrations are good for HotKeys. Find and sell them easily without having to remember their numbers or keeping a reference book by the sales station.

Each Hot Key Set is four Columns by eight rows for a total of 32 Hot Keys. In addition, a key can be linked to call another Set of 32 Hot Keys and so on, so there's virtually no limit to the number of Hot Keys.

You assign each Set and Column a Title and Color. Then, add the key label and link it to an item in inventory. In this example, the first column, blue, is for Drinks. It has eight drinks. Note that pressing the 1 through 8 keyboard keys pulls up the same item as touching the Hot Keys.

Links to other sets of Hot Keys are in the Red Column on the right.

Lottery Ticket Sales

Quick Keys and touch screens process Lottery Ticket Sales as fast as possible. Most of the money goes to the state so it is important that this is reported separate from store sales.

Set up Stock Locaters for Lottery Sales and Pay outs. (Configuration, Phone/Shipping.) Enter the % of sales retained by the store. There's a quick key for each of these.

The Sales Report for the selected period will show Sales (Taxed and Non Taxed,) the Lottery Sales Commission and a separate line for the balance of Lottery Sales.

Quick Keys to Sell by Amount
Do you want to sell gas, candy, and similar items by selecting a department and quickly entering the total? Then, select the Quick Keys POS screen in configuration. Just touch the key and enter the sale amount!

Follow this example for selling $26.99 of gas.

Select Configuration, then, add the keys (in this example, gas) that you want to sell by touching the key and entering the total. This even attaches to an inventory (non-decrementing) item so you can see sales by item as well as department.

Use Best Deal when considering a supplier's special offer

Here the Supplier is offering deep discounts for buying a lot. How many makes sense? We need to consider how fast the item moves, how much it costs to carry it in stock, as well as the discounted price. Best Deal suggests buying six at $59.25 each, which will last almost a month. Buying more than that, even though the price is a little lower, is not the 'Best Deal.'
