CAP SellWise
| SellWise from CAP Automation (800-826-5009) is a comprehensive POS business system that can be integrated with BusinessWorks to provide a complete business solution. POS transactions update inventory and accounts receivable in real time. In addition to purchasing and accounts payable (also included with other software reviewed), SellWise includes time and attendance, complete sales tax capabilities, a basic sales commission system and foreign conversion capabilities. CAP Automation also offers three lower cost software packages for smaller retail stores.

| Sales are entered from a sales screen. Items may be entered manually or by bar code scanner. Part numbers can be searched by ID, locater number, description or sub-description. The customer can be entered at any time during the sale. Lookup capabilities of customers are extensive, allowing search by business name, last name, zip code or account code (telephone number). Sales may be made per unit or, in the case of items normally sold by price (e.g. $10 of gasoline), by amount, and it calculates the quantity. Sales may also be put on hold—useful for repair or service work where the invoice is kept open until the work is completed. Payment methods are user-defined, and split payments may be made. POS also supports a quantity-pricing matrix for each item and includes a loan calculator for monthly payments on installment sales.

| Standard reports are adequate for most purposes. They may be viewed on screen, printed or saved for any period. Files may be exported to Microsoft Access to develop custom reports. Reports include time and attendance, physical-inventory variance reports, commission listings and sales-tax reports by taxing authority.

| SellWise combines powerful features and ease of use. Color-coded keypads that highlight standard entry keys are available. Optional beeps and chimes can also be used for different input confirmations, as well. Unlimited notes can be attached to all databases (inventory, customers and vendors) as well as on all printed documents. Phone numbers in customer, vendor and employee files can be called directly from the program by modem. SellWise also includes a basic word processor, which provides capabilities to write letters directly from the appropriate database file.

| Despite the power and features, screen layout could be improved by use of pull-down menus and lookup tables. The software does not include budgeting or sales quotas.

(Note from CAP: SellWise does have many other vital features, i.e., fault tolerant, reliable operation, polling, layaway, serial number tracking, perpetual reporting, etc. CAP responds to customers and has had no requests for budgeting or sales quotas. The 'single touch' method of selecting is much faster and easier, in our opinion, than pull-down menus.
